Do We Need a Wedding Planner?

The honest answer — and the question behind the question.

Short answer: it depends entirely on your venue.

Here's what a wedding planner actually does. They manage vendors, build timelines, coordinate setup and breakdown, communicate with the caterer, keep the ceremony on schedule, troubleshoot the thing that goes sideways at 5pm, and make sure you don't have to think about any of it.

That's a real service. For a lot of couples at a lot of venues — it's essential.

But the question isn't really "do we need a planner." The question is: who is managing the details on the day?

At venues where you rent the space and bring in every vendor yourself, the answer to that question is: you are, unless you hire someone. A planner in that context isn't a luxury — it's infrastructure.

At a full-service venue where a dedicated team is already managing the event from arrival to last call, the calculation changes. Your coordinator is already there. Your vendors are already coordinated. Your timeline is already built. The day already has a captain.

What we'd suggest:

If you're booking a venue that includes a dedicated event coordinator and a full staff, you may not need a full-service planner. A day-of coordinator — someone who knows your personal vision and can communicate it to the venue team — can be the right middle ground.

If you're assembling vendors yourself across multiple locations, a planner is one of the best investments you'll make.

Ask any venue you're considering one direct question: Who is managing the event on the day, and what is their role? The answer tells you everything.
