What Wedding Dress (or Suit) Suits Me?
Start with the room. Everything else follows.
Every bridal magazine answers this question with body type charts and silhouette guides. A-line for this, mermaid for that, ball gown if you're tall enough to carry it.
That's not bad advice. But it's missing the most important variable.
Start with your venue.
The dress that photographs beautifully in an open field disappears in a grand room with high ceilings. The slim modern suit that's perfect for a city venue looks underdressed in a cathedral. Your outfit isn't just about you — it's about the relationship between you and the space you're standing in.
Before you set foot in a bridal boutique, know these three things about your venue.
The formality level. A converted warehouse calls for something different than a twentieth-floor room with 360° views and a six-decade history. Neither is wrong — but they're not interchangeable.
The light. Natural light flatters different fabrics than tungsten or LED. Ask your photographer what the light does in the space at the time of your ceremony. Ivory in warm light reads gold. White in cool light reads ice. Both can be stunning — or not.
The background. Your portraits will have a backdrop. Is it architectural? Natural? Industrial? The color palette and silhouette of what you're wearing needs to work with it, not fight it.
The rule that actually holds:
Wear what makes you feel like the version of yourself you want to remember. The dress or suit that does that — at the venue you've chosen, in the light you'll be in — that's the answer.
Slate's space is dark, gold, and architectural. Floor-to-ceiling glass. A city backdrop that changes color across the evening. It rewards formality, elegance, and confidence.
Come see it before you shop. The room will tell you something the magazines can't.
